Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming

There may not be a more polarizing quarterback entering the intriguing 2018 draft class than Wyoming’s Josh Allen. The big bodied quarterback has already been touted by draft experts like Todd McShay and Mel Kiper as a first rounder. In Todd McShay’s first mock draft he has Allen going to the Denver Broncos with the fifth pick.

Put me down as one of the many who are skeptical of Allen. Even in McShay’s write up of the prospect he notes that Allen struggled this season at Wyoming. He was inconsistent throughout most of the season. It is still easy to see why an NFL team can fall in love with him.

At the Senior Bowl Allen will be coached by the Denver Broncos. The quarterback-needy Broncos could easily talk themselves into the big arm gunslinger.

Josh Norris of Rotoworld put together a great one minute clip of the highs and lows of watching Allen play quarterback.

Statistically Allen is not on the same plane as Mayfield, Darnold or Rosen. What he does have is the wow ability in his arm. This was one of the reasons a guy like Patrick Mahomes was a top 15 pick in last year’s draft.

Personally I do not see if with Allen. He will likely have his name called inside the top ten regardless. The Senior Bowl will put a big spotlight on Allen especially during practice and help his stock, which seems to fluctuate based on who you talk to.
