2018 Senior Bowl: 5 players to watch
By Joe Romano
Michael Gallup, WR, Colorado State
Another player who could make himself a first round pick at the Senior Bowl is Colorado State’s Michael Gallup. The big wide receiver has been on draft radar’s all season.
This past year he once again produced number you would expect from a big time prospect playing in a conference like the Mountain West. He was a consensus All American and had back to back 1,000 yard seasons. Gallup was also a finalist for the Biletnikoff award which was won by Oklahoma State’s James Washington (also in attendance this week in Mobile).
As a pro prospect, scouts and executives will be looking at Gallup to shine at this game. There is a bunch-up at the receiver position after Alabama’s Calvin Ridley, consensus top receiver in the draft. Some think Gallup could vault into that second position after finishing fifth nationally in receiving yards and third in receptions. Going up against a weak corner crop this year will also help him.
A highlight machine at Colorado State, Gallup is not shy from being praised for his ability to play. The former junior college player also had big games when his team needed it. In the biggest game Colorado State played all season against the eventual National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide, Gallup came to play. Despite shaky quarterback play he had five receptions for 81 yards. That is against the nations top defense and possibly two first round picks at defensive back. Imagine what he can do when he gets to the NFL.

Concerns around Gallup will be squashed if he runs well. His route running will also be called into questions, which he can put to rest with a strong outing this week. A good week of practice should only help the conversation that he deserves to be the second receiver taken.
