Milwaukee Bucks: 5 candidates to replace Jason Kidd as coach
2. David Fizdale
Fizdale was fired 19 games into this season by the Memphis Grizzlies, in the midst of what would ultimately be an 11-game losing streak and 19 losses in 21 games. He recently surfaced in league circles as a candidate to take to replace Luke Walton and take over the Los Angeles Lakers, but that talk has diminished a bit as owner Jeanie Buss and team president Magic Johnson eventually offered public support for Walton.
Fizdale’s noteworthy rant, punctuated by the instant catchphrase “take that for data”, after a playoff game loss to the San Antonio Spurs last April may make not make him an obvious fresh voice the Bucks seem likely to seek. But he is well-regarded among players in the league from his long run as an assistant coach for the Miami Heat, notably including LeBron James, and based on age alone (43) Fizdale may be open to a more analytics-driven approach than a lot of other candidates.
Fizdale will get a second chance to be an NBA head coach at some point, be it in Milwaukee heading into next season or somewhere else heading into next season. At a minimum, he has to be on the early list of candidates for the Bucks.
