In a fairly brilliant marketing scheme, Bud Light decided to tie in their ‘Dilly Dilly’ commercials to the Patriots AFC Championship.

In the wake of the New England Patriots comeback victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Bud Light put out a congratulatory video on their Twitter account.

This is a super smart move on their part for a few reasons. First, it’s pretty easy to get any short video to go viral on social media. Secondly, anytime you can tie your company to anything close to the Patriots and the Super Bowl, it’s a win 100 percent of the time. Teams like the Pats are great for social media, clicks, and ratings because they attract any type of fan. From casual to hard-core fans, there are plenty on both sides of the fence when it comes to New England. Many want to see them win and continue to be one of the best dynasties football has ever seen. A larger portion will do anything they can to try to undercut them and root hard against them.

Bud Light did a nice job of hitting some of the talking points about the game on Sunday. They referenced the comeback and of course threw in a line about quarterback Tom Brady being handsome. They made sure to make a mention of the “sleeveless leader” which is coach Bill Belichick. Those two will push more buttons and get people talking faster than almost anything else Bud Light could put out. Perhaps the cherry on top was the spot even threw a little shade on the Patriots haters.

Whoever came up with this spot in the marketing department deserves a nice little bonus. This spot is a solid way to ride the social media wave that the Patriots produce. Even the fans who can’t stand New England or if they never want to hear the phrase ‘Dilly Dilly’ EVER again have to give it up for smart marketing.
