2018 NFL Mock Draft: Josh Allen goes to the Jets
By Brad Weiss
The Washington Redskins were supposed to challenge in the NFC East this past season, as they were only a year removed from winning the division back in 2015. However, they took a major step backwards in 2017, as the team removed most of the weapons on offense prior to the season. That left Kirk Cousins with Terrelle Pryor as his only real option in the passing game, and the Redskins ended up finishing third in the division, with plenty of question marks heading into next season.
The first thing they need to do is lock up Cousins, though that looks like a long-shot at this point. The front office has yet to commit to him, and there is no way they franchise tag him for the third season in a row. If they do bring Cousins back, they can focus their draft pick on the defense, as they will definitely go quarterback here if he moves on from the Redskins.
Washington’s defense needs a lot of help, but they mostly need to upgrade in the secondary. Bringing in a guy like Derwin James from Florida State would be a nice fit, as he has the versatility to play all over the defensive backfield. James also did some return work when he was with the Seminoles, as he left school as the all-time leader in return yards. Washington needs playmakers, and he is certainly in that category.
