LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 2: Tyreke Evans /

New Orleans Pelicans

Send: Alexis Ajinca, Mike James, 2018 first round pick

Receive: Tyreke Evans

The sweet irony of giving up a first round pick for a player they used to have on their roster is one of the things that makes the NBA great. The Pelicans need another wing, and Evans is one of the most talented wings available at the trade deadline. It’s a move that would cost them their 2018 first round pick, but they need to prove to DeMarcus Cousins that they’re willing to pay to have a winning team.

While Evans wouldn’t be in the same role with the Pelicans that he has with the Grizzlies, he does provide them with a playmaking guard off the bench that can close games alongside Jrue Holiday, Anthony Davis, and DeMarcus Cousins. It’s not the greatest option, but it’s the best one they can find.

I also have them making a deal where they get a 2018 second from Houston, as well as Bruno Caboclo from Toronto. It’s a cap move for Toronto and New Orleans, with the Pelicans sending Jameer Nelson and Ian Clark to the Rockets.
