2018 NBA Mock Draft: Collin Sexton could break open the New York Knicks’ ceiling
I cover the Phoenix Suns for Bright Side of the Sun, and most every coach I’ve spoken with this season has mentioned the value of having multiple ball-handlers on the court. In fact, people who watch the Suns see the phenomenon in effect every night, as teams devote so much attention to Devin Booker that he effectively cannot score.
There is potential for New York to do something similar if they pick Sexton.
The rookie point guard has missed games with an abdominal injury recently, but he has already shown enough to go this high. The Knicks could pair him with Frank Ntilikina and immediately boast one of the more fascinating backcourts in the NBA.
Whereas Ntilikina is a defender and passer, Sexton is more of a shooter and scorer, someone who could find success as an off-guard early in his NBA career. The Alabama freshman is shooting 37 percent from 3 this year and finishing drives well. He should be a plus scorer in the NBA.
Plus, Sexton, Kristaps Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr. would form one of the better scoring trios in the league immediately.
