The 1994 Royal Rumble featured a lot of Bret “The Hitman” Hart and that usually adds up to good things, even if the end of the Royal Rumble match was a bit controversial. But before we get there, let’s talk about the night that Diesel had. At one point, Kevin Nash eliminated seven consecutive people before being tossed out and the 18 minutes he spent in the ring really took his career to another level. There was a battle between Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty that was fun as well but the drama came at the end of the match when Bret Hart and Lex Luger eliminated each other. Nobody quite knew what to make of it as it had never happened before but both were called the winner and that led into WrestleMania X where both would get a shot at Yokozuna. More on him in a minute.
Bret Hart almost didn’t make it to the Rumble match after what was the overall highlight of the night that came after the match of the night. Bret and his brother Owen faced The Quebecers early on the card and lost the tag titles when Bret had his leg injured and couldn’t continue. After the match, Owen completed the heel turn that had been teased for months and attacked Bret, which led to the best feud of 1994.
As for the rest of the undercard, Tatanka versus Bam Bam Bigelow was decent enough and probably better than either the Intercontinental Championship match or the Casket Match for the WWE Championship with The Undertaker and Yokozuna. Yokozuna picked up the win here but it took 10 guys to help him and the happenings after the match were insane.
