The 1995 Royal Rumble event got off to a nice start with the Intercontinental Championship match between Jeff Jarrett and Razor Ramon. These two battled each other constantly so there was a good chemistry between the two and it played out nicely to get things going. I can’t say the same for the following match as The Undertaker continued his neverending feud with The Million Dollar Corporation. IRS was the casualty here and the whole thing was pretty bland. But at least King Kong Bundy was there.

The WWE Championship bout featuring Bret Hart and Diesel was the match of the night, even if they battled to a draw. It’s weird now to see Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, who interfered in the match, somewhat on the same side but it worked. Plenty of others got involved, including Owen, and the ref had no choice but to disqualify both men. See, this is how you do it. If you’re going to go with a screwy finish, don’t put the match on last.

Following a decent tag match, the Royal Rumble match closed the show and while it did feature a historic moment, it’s not quite as impressive as it could have been. The whole thing felt rushed as the time between entrants was only about a minute. So while it’s still impressive that Shawn Michaels and British Bulldog, who entered at number one and two, lasted the entire match, the whole thing took less than 40 minutes. But Shawn still won from the number one spot and there’s something to be said for a Royal Rumble first.
