The only reason the 2015 Royal Rumble pay-per-view isn’t in the bottom three was the WWE World Heavyweight Championship bout that saw Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Seth Rollins put on one hell of a show. That match in itself could have even vaulted this event up a couple of spots as all three were at the top of their game and it was one of the best WWE matches of 2015. Great match.
Unfortunately, that was the only good match of the evening. Actually, the match on the kickoff show with Tyson Kidd and Cesaro taking on The New Day was pretty good but I’m only going with the main cards here so that’s no help. Creative was trying to get The Ascension over by having them beat a classic team like The New Age Outlaws but the match was bland and did nothing. The tag team title match with The Usos taking on The Miz and Damien Mizdow wasn’t the worst thing in the world but it could have been so much better and The Bellas versus Paige and Natalya was just average at best.
As for the Royal Rumble match, the booking was just way off. I’m not even talking about Daniel Bryan not winning. I’ve got no problem with him being eliminated but it was just the way that it was done. There was no drama to it at all. He came in at number 10 and went about 10 minutes and really didn’t make an impact at all. I know they wanted to get him out of there somewhat early as to not give the WWE Universe false hope that he was going to win but what it did was take them out of the match completely.
I liked Bray Wyatt getting some time to shine but really didn’t care for how he was eliminated. As for the Roman Reigns win, it really didn’t bother me at all, especially when he went to WrestleMania and put on a hell of a show with Brock Lesnar. The Royal Rumble match just lacked in terms of storytelling and with a weak undercard, this is where it should be.
