After one warm weather location hosted the event in 2018, the NHL will move on to another as they head to San Jose for the 2019 NHL All-Star Game.

Apparently, the NHL must love to hang out on the beach and get some sun when the end of January rolls around and All-Star Weekend hits. After holding the event in Tampa, FL this year, the league announced on Saturday that they’d be heading out west for next year’s installment.

Before the Skills Competition on Saturday night during this year’s NHL All-Star Weekend, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced the 2019 All-Star Game will be held in San Jose, CA, keeping up with the warm weather trend that they’ve started for the event.

The league must be following the NFL’s model of enticing players to want to go to the All-Star Game by hosting the event in some nice vacation spots, with players able to get their tan on before these games and competitions go down each year.

Bettman wasn’t done with his announcements on the night with the San Jose news, as he also had some international news to discuss. He brought up how there are plans in place to have two games during the preseason in China next season, with even more ideas after that.

Before the season gets rolling, the New Jersey Devils will take a trip to Switzerland and the Edmonton Oilers will head to Germany to play preseason games against local teams. After all of that is said and done, the two NHL squads will head to Sweden to hold their openers to their regular season schedules.

The 2018-2019 season is bound to be a huge one for the NHL both in the United States and internationally, and it’ll be interesting to see how these ideas continue to grow over the next few seasons, with possible expansion still in mind.
