Heading into this weekend, Valencia are third in La Liga, five points ahead of fourth place Real Madrid. However, despite both clubs being in the top four, the two clubs have struggled lately, taking the luster off of Saturday’s game. Valencia have picked up only nine points in their last seven games, while Madrid have picked up only four points in their last four games.

Valencia lost 2-1 to Las Palmas in their last game. The loss was the club’s third loss in their last five games. Marcelino’s team picked up points in 13 games to start the season but their recent slide allowed Atletico Madrid to move three points ahead in the table. Valencia success at the beginning of the season was their ability to score goals. This season, only Barcelona have scored more goals than Valencia. However, Valencia have scored only nine goals in their last eight games. Simone Zaza, Rodrigo, and Santi Mina have split time in Marcelino’s front two, combining for 26 of the club’s 41 goals. The trio will look to find the back of the net to grow their lead on the defending champions.

To add to Madrid’s La Liga struggles, the club crashed out of Copa del Rey, losing 2-1 to Leganes at home. The pressure in Madrid has led to questions about manager Zinédine Zidane’s job security with the club 19 points behind Barcelona. In addition to speculation about Zidane’s job, rumors about Cristiano Ronaldo continue to grow about his happiness at the club. Ronaldo and Gareth Bale both scored twice against Deportivo de La Coruña, giving both players six goals in La Liga. If either player catches fire over the second half of the season, Madrid could make a run up the table and in Champions Leauge.
