2018 NFL mock draft: Baker Mayfield heads to Jets
By Brad Weiss
The Chicago Bears pulled the trigger on a draft day trade last April that moved them from pick No. 3, to pick No. 2. With that selection, the team went out and drafted North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who was supposed to sit behind free agent signing Mike Glennon during his rookie season. However, Glennon was absolutely awful for the Bears, forcing head coach John Fox to make the move to the rookie early in the campaign.
Trubisky did not play badly, and in fact, he showed some flashes that he could be a legitimate quarterback in the league moving forward. Head coach John Fox was let go after the season, clearing the way for former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Nagy is an offensive-minded guy, and is great with quarterbacks, which is likely the reason the team was so quick to sign him after the Chiefs were eliminated in the Wild Card Round.
Nagy is going to help Trubisky develop, but this team needs help at the wide receiver position. Both Kevin White and Cameron Meredith missed nearly all of the 2017 season, making depth at the wideout position a priority this offseason. Calvin Ridley from Alabama showed on the biggest of stages why he is regarded as the best wide receiver prospect sin this draft class, and Trubisky would like nothing more than for his team to go out and get him a weapon early in the first round in April.
