Top 20 quarterback performances in Super Bowl history
By Joe Romano
15. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints, Super Bowl XLIV
One of the four remaining active players to make this list is New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. The former San Diego Chargers quarterback took his new team to the Super Bowl in 2010.
Statistically Brees is one of the best to ever play the game. He’s led the league in passing multiple times, including falling a single yard short of breaking Peyton Manning’s record for most yards in a season. Fittingly, Manning was the opponent Brees was able to beat in this game.
The game featured two of the best offenses in the league that season. Both teams entered the playoffs as their conferences number one seed. New Orleans offense did not disappoint in the Super Bowl with 31 points. Meanwhile the Manning-led Colts only mustered 17 points.
The Saints gambled to open the second half (while trailing) by kicking an onside kick. They recovered it and that moment changed the fate of the game. The Saints would put up 25 second half points while the Colts could only muster seven.
Brees would win MVP completing a then record-tying 32-of-39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns. It was also the Saints first appearance and victory in the Super Bowl.
