14. Troy Aikman, Dallas Cowboys, Super Bowl XXVII

The Dallas Cowboys won their first Super Bowl of the “triplets” era in 1993 behind strong play of quarterback Troy Aikman. They defeated the Buffalo Bills in one of the highest scoring Super Bowls in history. It was a star studded game. Both teams had players who would go on to the Hall of Fame at quarterback, running back, wide receiver and defensive end.

Dallas entered the playoffs with a high powered offense behind Aikman and the NFL’s leading rusher Emmitt Smith. It was their defense and Aikman that stole the show in the Super Bowl. The Cowboys forced a Super Bowl record nine turnovers (four interceptions and five fumbles).

The Bills had to replace starting quarterback Jim Kelly halfway through the game. This was a big reason the final score ended 52-17.

All three of Dallas’ big names came to play. Aikman would finish the game 22-of-30 for 273 yards and four touchdowns. Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin caught six balls for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Smith would rush 22 times for 108 yards and a touchdown.

The quarterback was awarded the MVP for his efforts.

It was complete domination by the Cowboys. This game also marked the first time in NFL history a team loss three consecutive Super Bowls in the Buffalo Bills.
