12. Bart Starr, Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl I

Another Green Bay Packers quarterback makes the cut. This time it is the franchises’ first Super Bowl winning quarterback Bart Starr in the first ever Super Bowl.

At the time of the game there were reports out there not even calling it the Super Bowl. Some referred to the game as the AFL-NFL Championship. This was the first time the two leagues would square off after they decided to merge in 1966.

Starr was the league’s top quarterback. He won the regular season MVP throwing 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Those numbers were strong given the state of football.

Unfortunately for those who wanted the “underdog” AFL to keep it close were disappointed. The Kansas City Chiefs were able to keep it close in the first half. Once halftime was over the Packers took control behind Starr and a suffocating defense.

The Packers beat the Chiefs 35-10. Starr took home MVP honors that day as well. He ended the game completing 16-of-25 passes with two touchdowns and an interceptions. It was Green Bay’s first of four championships, including the following season in Super Bowl II.
