Only two points and one place in the table separate Crystal Palace and Newcastle. The Eagles are 13th with 26 points, while the Magpies are 14th and 24 points. Sunday, Palace host Newcastle at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace have picked up eight points in their last five games. On Tuesday, the Eagles drew 1-1 with West Ham after Christian Benteke scored his second goal of the season. After scoring 15 goals last season, Benteke has had a very disappointing second season with Crystal Palace. For Palace to ensure their survival, they need Benteke to start scoring more frequently. Luka Milivojevic leads Palace with five goals, while Wilfried Zaha has four goals this season. Overall, Palace have scored the fifth fewest goals in the Premier League with 23.
Newcastle have picked up six points in their last five games to distance themselves from the relegation zone. However, the Magpies should have picked up three points in their last game but an own-goal by keeper Karl Darlow in the 85th minute gifted Burnley a point. Like Palace, Newcastle have scored only 23 goals. Joselu leads the club with four goals but the club is hoping that their winter signings help improve the club’s ability to score goals. The Magpies signed Islam Slimani on loan from Leicester and Kenedy on loan from Chelsea to generate more goals. If Rafa Benitez’s side are going to avoid relegation, they need to find the back of the net more often.
