The Washington Redskins made a move to lock up their quarterback long-term this past week, though it was not the name many expected. The Redskins traded for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, who is coming off the best season of his career. Smith led the Chiefs to back-to-back AFC West titles in the last two seasons, and definitely has the talent to make the Redskins a winner moving forward.

With the quarterback position locked up, the team must look to the other side of the ball in the first round this April. The linebacker group needs a serious upgrade, and luckily for the Redskins, there are some phenomenal linebackers in this draft class. Rashaan Evans is right up there with Georgia’s Roquan Smith when it comes to the best linebackers this draft class has to offer, and he comes with a winning pedigree.

Evans was a key component on an Alabama team that won the last two national titles, and he is going to be a good one at the next level. He has tremendous lateral skills, and is just as good against the pass as he is against the rush. If the Redskins want to be competitive in the NFC East next season, they have to be better against the run, and bringing in a solid middle linebacker with their first round pick seems to be the way to go.
