Kansas City Chiefs: An offensive trio of Kelce, Hill, and Hunt
Goodbye Alex Smith and welcome to the Patrick Mahomes era in Kansas City. The 10th overall pick in the 2017 draft played sparingly during his rookie season but showed enough promise to head coach Andy Reid and the front office. This offseason the Chiefs elected to ditch the aging Smith off a career season and now put the franchise’s trust in the 22-year old Mahomes. While Mahomes possesses loads of talent, it’s going to be his supporting cast that carries the load.
General manager Brett Veach can be credited to surrounding Smith with a plethora of weapons. Tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Tyreek Hill and running back Kareem Hunt all amassed 1,000 yards at their respective positions. It made the Chiefs one of the most balanced offensive units in the AFC and if it weren’t for a late-season downfall, they could’ve made a deep run in the postseason.
Rarely do we see young quarterbacks have these amount of weapons at their disposal and Mahomes couldn’t be in a better position. This is what the Broncos wish they had but now the Chiefs look like the most promising team in the AFC West entering the 2018 season.
We’ve seen second-year quarterbacks have Super Bowl success and what’s not to say Mahomes can’t do the same? It wouldn’t surprise us one bit with the talent the Chiefs have on their current roster.
