Minnesota Vikings: George Edwards’ defense will continue to dominate
How the quarterback carousel will turn out in Minnesota has yet to be seen but if there’s one thing the Vikings can rely on next season, it’s George Edwards and his defense. The Vikings were straight up nasty on that side of the ball in 2017. They allowed just 192.4 passing yards per game and 83.6 rushing yards per game. That’s a testament to how great Edwards has been during his four-year tenure.
Mike Zimmer chose right bringing in Edwards during his first year as head coach. The pairing has worked out tremendously. They’ve drafted and acquired some incredible talent that’s been the key to defensive success. Everson Griffin is a man among boys playing in the trenches while Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, and Harrison Smith don’t allow anything over the top in the secondary. It’s a wide receiver’s worst nightmare and it turns into a reality when they face the Vikings.
Defense is crucial for the Vikings in the NFC North. They face high-powered offenses with Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford multiple times a season. Not to mention, Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears are gaining momentum on that side of the ball. The Vikings were stout and it’s exactly why they dominated their way to a 13-3 record and a division crown.

In an offensive-driven league, the Vikings still dominate on defense. That’s not to say Adam Thielen and other offensive players aren’t contributors but if the Vikings win Super Bowl 52, it’s going to be with defense first.
