Buffalo Bills: A taste of the postseason

The 2017 Wild-card weekend was Buffalo’s literal Super Bowl as the Bills finally ended their 17-year postseason drought. After years and years of mediocrity, Sean McDermott led the Bills to the promised land in his first season as head coach. It was the inexperience that ultimately hurt the team in their 10-3 loss to the Jaguars but they’ve finally had the taste of the postseason. Now it’s time to take it a step further.

The Bills are no longer the feel-good story of the football world. Their Cinderella story is over and they’ll be expected to translate that into a deep postseason run. That’s possible given the talent on both sides of the ball, primarily on the defense. A group that was counted out after losing Stephon Gillmore, Ronald Darby and Marcell Dareus still held their own throughout the season. With young pieces, they’ll only continue to improve.

On the offensive side of the ball, LeSean McCoy is one of the best running backs on the field in a given week and the wide receiver group is poised to make strides with plenty of young weapons available. It’s just a matter of who is taking starting snaps under center next season but that’s something to be addressed in free agency.

The important part is, the entire roster now has playoff experience. That’s extremely important among Super Bowl winning teams and the phrase “act like you’ve been there before” really does hold true meaning.
