While the secondary is definitely one thing for the Steelers to work on as they move forward to next season, they may want to look elsewhere on defense, as well. They need some more threats for linebackers, and Avery Williamson could be a good fit.

Ever since James Harrison left town and made his way onto the Patriots roster, the Steelers haven’t had much of a threat at linebacker. Obviously, Ryan Shazier’s absence due to his injury plays a big factor in that, but the team was lacking at the position late in the year. No one knows if Shazier will make his way back onto the field for 2018 after such a serious injury, and the Steelers made need to find a suitable replacement.

Williamson provides some speed at inside linebacker that could be a useful tool in the Steelers defense, and he’d be an important piece to the puzzle if the team can find a way to get him on their roster. He was a key part of the Tennessee Titans’ run to the postseason in 2017, and he could turn into a huge factor in a potential postseason run for the boys in the black and yellow.

At this point, secondary is likely more important to the Steelers than their linebackers, but Shazier’s status provides a big question mark on the outside. With that in mind, pairing Williamson and T.J. Watt on the team’s linebacking core on defense could be a nice option for the Steelers to have in this make-or-break season coming up.
