The 2018 30-team NBA mega-trade that solves nothing and makes everyone mad
By Ian Levy
Miami Heat
Sending out: Dion Waiters (SAS), Justise Winslow (UTA)
Bringing in: Alexis Ajinca (NOP), Wilson Chandler (DEN), 2020 first-round pick (MIL)
The Miami Heat have continued to surprise this year, behind a strong season from Wayne Ellington and deep roster of guards and wings sharing the load on offense. The one guard who has not made a mark for Miami this year is Dion Waiters who signed a huge new contract, stunk up the joint for 30 games and then went down for the season after ankle surgery.
Justise Winslow has shown some flashes this season but nothing that indicates he’s a future star. It might be a tough pill to swallow giving up on him but it might be worth it to clear Waiters’ contract off their books. Chandler and Ajinca have one more season on their deals and then can be jettisoned. Miami also gets a future first-rounder from Milwaukee to help compensate for the loss of Winslow.
