Roberto Luongo. 19. player. 87. . G. Florida Panthers

It looks like Roberto Luongo is schedule to be back at some point in the next few weeks. That’s good news for his trade value and for any team searching for a veteran goaltender. Except you, Canada. You keep your dirty paws off of the great Luongo. You don’t deserve him after what you did to him in Vancouver.

We all know the issues with Luongo. That contract. He’s still owed $4.5 million each year over the next four years. He’s still a fine goaltender. You can roll with him as your number one and feel good about your chances, despite his age. But who wants to pay a 40-year-old with injury history $4.5 million? No one. Not one single person.

Maybe Arizona. I’d actually kill for Arizona to trade for Luongo and Semyon Varlamov, tying up $10 million in two injury riddled goalies. That’s how you stay above the cap floor and continue to tank. Help us, Arizona, you’re our only hope.

Better yet, maybe the St. Louis Blues will swap Jake Allen for Luongo. Allen is having a down season and I don’t think he’s the answer to their Finals drought. The money lines up and Luongo would be awesome in St. Louis. Or he’d turn out like Ryan Miller. But you have to have faith when it comes to Luongo. Good things need to happen to this man.

Make this happen St. Louis. You need a needle mover. You need the best NHL player on Twitter to backstop your team to the Stanley Cup Finals. Just, please, be kind to him. He’s been through a lot.
