One player on each NHL team that should be traded
The Zach Parise contract is the worst contract in the NHL. He is 33-years-old and the Wild will pay him $7.5 million until he is 40. His production has dropped every season and he’s coming off back surgery. Back surgery at 33-years-old. Yeah, that bodes well for his future.
There’s no way the Wild can get out of this contract. No general manager is dumb enough to trade for Parise this season or the next five seasons.
But if any team needs to deal a player, the Wild NEED to deal Parise. They need to deal Parise the same way they felt they needed to sign him to a 13 year deal. No player should get a 13 year deal. Connor McDavid is a top-5 player in the league at 21-years-old. And even the Oilers, the friggin’ Oilers, weren’t dumb enough to give him a 13-year deal.
Not only did they give Zach Parise a 13-year deal, but they gave Ryan Suter a 13-year deal at the exact same moment. This franchise looked at the Rick DiPietro 15-year mistake and said, “Let’s do that. But twice.”
In reality, they need to get out of both contracts. If they could somehow trade both players into the abyss, they should do it. They should try and trade both guys to the Minnesota Twins. I don’t think cross-sport trades are legal, but that should not stop the Wild from entertaining the thought. In this case, the Wild should be allowed to trade Parise and Suter for Joe Mauer.
Gear up with a new Wild hat from Fanatics.
Zach Parise’s name will appear every year on this list. Don’t blame me. I didn’t give him a 13-year contract.
