. C. Anaheim Ducks. Antoine Vermette. 31. player. 105

At 35-years-old, Vermette’s best days are behind him. However, he can be a valuable piece to a team with their eye on the Stanley Cup. The Ducks are currently battling for a wild card spot, but it just doesn’t appear to be in the cards for them this season. Injuries have cost them too many games, Corey Perry is having a rough season, and Jonathan Bernier is better than John Gibson.

Vermette’s ice time has dipped below 10-minutes in recent contests. By any metric, he’s having one of the worst years of his career. Expect, plus/minus. He’s a plus-two as of this writing. If you’re a plus/minus truther, Vermette is a guy you use in a lot of arguments.

He’s neither the future or the present for the Anaheim Ducks.

A team looking to acquire Vermette probably would not have to give up much. Not only is his production down, but he’s on the final year of his contract. There’s no reason why a team looking to add depth should not give up a late round draft pick in hopes that he provides a spark in the playoffs.

The Ducks should be looking to dump him the same way the Colorado Avalanche looked to dump Jarome Iginla last season. Take whatever you can get. Even if what you get turns out to be, literally, nothing. A younger or hungry AHL player would be more useful for Anaheim this season. With Anaheim likely having no intentions of re-signing Vermette in the offseason, they should be looking at any team to take him off their hands.
