99. . RW. St. Louis Blues. Oskar Sundqvist. 7. player

The St. Louis Blue have a couple of young players that they need to part with if they want to load up for a Cup run. The first is Dmitrij Jaskin. He’s not untouchable and if the right deal comes along, the Blues likely take a hard look at dealing him. He’s 24-years-old, still has some upside, and may need a change of scenery to succeed in the NHL.

Oskar Sundqvist is is the more likely young player that is dealt. He’s currently in the AHL for a conditioning stint, which is code for, “we have no use for this guy on our NHL roster.”

Sundqvist is 23-years-old and had seven points in 58 career games. There is no evidence that he’s going to be a good NHL player. But teams love potential. And they’ll take a chance on a 23-year-old if it means giving up a veteran that they’re going to lose anyway.

The Blues have been the Capitals of the West over the years. Unlike the Capitals, they haven’t gone “all-in” at the trade deadline for a couple of years. They actually helped the Capitals go all-in by trading Kevin Shattenkirk to Washington last season. The Blues have been very weary of making a big splash at the deadline ever since they were burned by the Ryan Miller trade.

The Winter Classic is over, but this sweatshirt still looks great.

The appears to be a season where the Blues are willing to go all-in. The West is wide open right now. Las Vegas is at the top of the conference and there is a lot of doubt concerning how they’ll perform in the playoffs.

Both parties would benefit from a deal.
