2. John DeFilippo, Eagles Quarterbacks Coach

As a Super Bowl-winning season for the Philadelphia Eagles wound down, DeFilippo interviewed for the head coaching openings with the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals. Most recently the Minnesota Vikings have requested permission to interview him for their offensive coordinator job, but he can’t be hired until 10 days after Philadelphia’s season ended, and the Eagles were blocking him from interviewing until his contract expires next week. Now, according to Adam Caplan of Sirius XM, the Vikings will interview DeFilippo on Thursday.

The Eagles may want to promote DeFilippo to offensive coordinator if the chips fall a certain way, so blocking him from interviewing him for the same position elsewhere is understandable on some level. But if the Colts want to interview DeFilippo for their head coaching job, assuming he does not land the job in Minnesota, blocking that would be a very bad look for Philadelphia.

With prevalent concerns about the condition of Andrew Luck’s throwing shoulder, DeFelippo may simply turn down the opportunity to interview for Indianapolis’ head coaching job and stay in a good, winning situation with the Eagles. But he should at least be on Chris Ballard’s list of candidates to check on.
