NBA Trade Deadline 2018: 5 trades to help teams tank
1. Trust the Process
The originators of the Process. The Philadelphia 76ers share the same motto as Ricky Bobby. “If you ain’t first, you’re last.” The 76ers are currently eighth. In other words, they are last.
What does this trade accomplish? Not a whole lot. Neither team gets better, although it does give Giannis Antetokounmpo another shooter. I’m all in favor of playing Antetokounmpo at center and surrounding him with four shooters. It’s unstoppable in NBA 2K.
For the 76ers, they signed Redick to be the veteran leader on a young team. That’s all well and good. But you know who is a real veteran leader? Matthew Dellavedova. He has a ring. J.J. Redick has a podcast. Sure, they can be done with Redick after this season while they are tied to Dellavedova for two more seasons. But, did I mention that Dellavedova has a ring and shutdown Steph Curry in the Finals? Redick has a Finals appearance where his team lost more games with him in the lineup than they won.
Next: Every NBA team's Mount Rushmore
Furthermore, the Sixers stay on brand by acquiring an often injured player that they can shutdown after the trade goes through, but tell fans that they are working with him on making a comeback.
Neither team improves enough to get beat by Kyrie Irving in the playoffs. The Sixers do their best to avoid the playoffs entirely in order to land another lottery pick. The Bucks get to play a lineup of Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm Brogdon, Redick, Khris Middleton, and Antetokounmpo. Everyone Processes.
