Drew Brees. 1. player. 15. . QB. New Orleans Saints

The best quarterback hitting the free agent market may not really want to. Yes, Drew Brees is hitting free agency, but will he really consider leaving the New Orleans Saints in the twilight of his hall of fame career? Well, money talks and Brees may see a better chance to win a Super Bowl outside of The Big Easy.

To be fair, it’s hard to separate Brees’ success from that of Saints head coach Sean Payton. Payton has gotten a little quirky in the last year or so, like giving opposing players’ choke signs and doing other team’s chants to be an instigator. New Orleans should have a good team next year, but how will the Saints respond to the heartbreaking loss that was the Minneapolis Miracle. It was so much worse than the River City Relay.

Brees is only hitting free agency because he has to, as he is no longer allowed to be franchise tagged by a team at this stage of his illustrious career. Seeing him play for somebody other than the Saints feels wrong, but we’ve seen stranger things before. Brett Favre once played for the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings. So you never know.

Brees is the most talented quarterback hitting free agency this spring. He won’t command a massive multi-year deal, as the Saints just got out of salary cap hell and his clearly on the back-nine as a player. Brees won’t be as expensive as Cousins, but is only a short-term solution at quarterback for any time that signs him. It makes too much sense for him to go back to the Saints.
