2018 NBA Mock Draft: Mohamed Bamba could be the Suns’ last building block
Carter surpasses both Bridges’ in this edition of the mock draft, landing on a Chicago team still lacking traditional young big men.
One thing sort of stands in the way of Chicago rebuilding its frontcourt, however. Cristiano Felicio signed a four-year, $32 million deal this summer as the Bulls capitalized on their heap of cap space to lock in a promising young big behind starter Robin Lopez. He has underperformed in a big way this year.
Lopez will be gone soon, leaving tons of minutes for a young big to develop next to rookie Lauri Markkannen.
Carter has surprised most of us this year at Duke, finding ways to contribute next to Marvin Bagley. Most of his value comes on defense. He has surpassed four blocks six times this year, and has an exciting 7.6 percent block rate on the season.
It’s incredibly risky trying to balance two nontraditional big men on a rebuilding team (just ask the Suns). Carter would be solid and different next to Markkannen.
