2018 NBA Mock Draft: Mohamed Bamba could be the Suns’ last building block

Porter would change the tone of this Memphis team in an instant.

The franchise has never had a player so versatile on offense. Mike Miller, Pau Gasol and Rudy Gay came varying degrees of close to that mark, but Porter’s ability to do so many different things at a potentially elite level is what sets him apart.

It seems, based on the reports surrounding the team heading into the trade deadline, that they are opting toward what NBA teams like to call a “retool” rather than a “rebuild.” That’s fine, they weren’t going to be able to get great value for Marc Gasol, Mike Conley or Chandler Parsons anyway.

They are bad enough this season to get a pick this high, in a stacked draft, and could add someone like Porter to their team and remain relatively competitive. A new coach could bring the Conley-Gasol partnership back to its former glory while Porter waits in the wings.

It looks at this point like something of a win-win for Memphis.
