2018 NBA Mock Draft: Mohamed Bamba could be the Suns’ last building block
Watching the Suns since Devin Booker’s move to become the team’s starting point guard, it has become apparent how much backcourt defense is going to be an issue, even by the time these guys are more developed.
Hutchison would be a solid guy to bring in for a team that needs defense and is still a few years away.
Phoenix has done a solid job balancing its roster, but it hasn’t worked out for the to this point in their rebuild. They have just one obvious cornerstone player in Booker, and his value comes almost entirely on the offensive end. Recent draft picks Dragan Bender and Josh Jackson flash defensive potential in spurts, but it hasn’t been enough to keep the Suns from falling near the bottom of the league in defense.
Hutchison also fits the mold of guys like Booker, Jackson and Bender who are supremely versatile. The Suns talk a lot about fitting the trends of the modern NBA, and someone who can defend multiple positions and shoots 36 percent on four 3s per game sounds thoroughly modern. The Boise State senior is a good match for Phoenix.
