NEW ORLEANS, LA – NOVEMBER 20: Tony Allen /

Tony Allen

After spending seven memorable seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, Tony Allen decided to part ways with the grit n’ grind ball club and signed with the Pelicans this past off-season, a team desperate for wing depth.

Five months after signing with them, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls in the Nikola Mirotic deal, and the Bulls plan on buying him out.

While Allen’s numbers dropped this season for the Pelicans and he’s clearly not the defender he once was, he is still a plus defender who could fill a spot role for a playoff team.

One team who is interested is the Oklahoma City Thunder, who lost their defensive stopper, Andre Roberson, to a season-ending injury. Allen could be a solid stopgap filler for Roberson and give the team more lineup variation in the latter stages of the season and the playoffs.

Another team who could look to sign him is the Detroit Pistons, who may be open to the idea after sending Avery Bradley to the Clippers in the Blake Griffin trade.
