Round 4 – Pick 113

Alex Cappa, T, Humboldt State

Back to back offensive lineman should make Miami fans happy. There are concerns at the right tackle spot after former first round pick Ja’Wuan James is potentially on the roster bubble. James was a solid player who has battled injuries but the team seems non-committal to him after the 2018 season.

Grabbing a small school player like Alex Cappa of Humboldt State makes sense here in the fourth round. Cappa made himself serious money during the Senior Bowl. His tape is downright disrespectful to the defensive lineman he plays. He continued that mean streak in Mobile despite the elevation in talent level he was competing against.

At 6-foot-7 and 305 pounds, Cappa has the perfect build for an NFL tackle. At the Senior Bowl he showed that he is also the type of athlete teams like at the tackle spot. His long arms and fluid feet should translate really well into the NFL.

Even if James is retained after Miami picked up his fifth-year option for 2018, Cappa makes the perfect swing tackle insurance in his rookie season. This allows the team to move on from James in 2019 and insert Cappa into the right side in what would be his second season.

Round 4 – Pick 132

Duke Ejiofor, EDGE, Wake Forest

Miami spent a first-round pick on an edge rusher in Charles Harris of Missouri last year. Harris was not the elite pass rusher the team expects but he showed flashes. He flashed enough to push the need for another pass rusher down to the fourth round. That is where the Dolphins could grab another exciting pass rushing prospect in Wake Forest’s Duke Ejiofor.

Ejiofor was extremely productive during his past two seasons for the Deacons. He totaled 17 sacks and 31.5 tackles for loss. The reason he will be pushed down draft boards is that he does not show the athleticism that edge defenders need to have at the NFL level. An impressive combine performance could push him up draft boards into the day two conversation.

If he is available in round four, Ejiofor has the potential to make a quick impact. As a situational pass rusher with elite technique he could come in on passing downs and provide a spark. Miami finished with only 26th in sacks with 30. Harris’ growth in another year and a player like Ejiofor should increase the number dramatically.
