NFL free agency 2018: Best wide receivers available
2. Allen Robinson
2017 Stats – 1 target, 1 reception, 17 yards, 0 touchdowns (ACL tear)
If he hadn’t sustained an ACL tear during the first five minutes of the season, Allen Robinson would likely be the number one option on the list. He’s been the number one option in the offense the past couple of seasons and had a fantastic year in 2015, accumulating 80 receptions for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. Many in the media are just suggesting that the Jaguars use franchise tag on Robinson and call it a day. That may well be what happens but it’s not that cut and dry for the Jaguars. Their salary cap looks like it’s in good shape but they have some decisions to make.
The most important call for Jacksonville is quarterback Blake Bortles. He’s due a little over $19 million this year, but can be cut for $0 in dead cap money. Even if Jacksonville doesn’t believe that he is wroth that, they’ll have to pay someone a lot more than the $3.3 million they paid Bortles in 2017.
The Jaguars could cut guys like running back Chris Ivory and receiver Allen Hurns to save some money. It could also behoove them to lock up a young stud like Yannick Ngakoue now before his price tag goes crazy. There are plenty of options but it’s a legitimate question as to whether Jacksonville will sink franchise receiver money into a player coming off an ACL tear. Provided he is healthy, Robinson would be a huge upgrade to any offense. He’s an excellent receiver and it would be fun to see him paired with a good quarterback.
Potential Fits – Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens
