Round 3 – Pick 72

James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State

Chalk this pick up to likely unavailable but was there this time around. The New York Jets watched their wide receiver Robby Anderson have a break out season in 2017. Then he went out and got arrested the week before the Super Bowl. Without Anderson this receiving unit may be the worst group in the league.  New York needs to address that position and luckily this is a deep class of receivers.

At pick 72 the best of the bunch left was James Washington out of Oklahoma State. This is the range that many saw Washington going early in the draft process. However a stellar week at the Senior Bowl is pushing him up draft boards. With an exceptional combine his stock will keep climbing.

Upon first glance seeing a receiver with Washington’s build and frame, wearing number 28, it is easy to think he is a running back. There are not many receivers who are 6-feet tall and 208 pounds. Despite that bulky body type, Washington is more than the one trick pony many thought he was at Oklahoma State.

During the week of the Senior Bowl Washington went out and proved that he can be a dynamic route runner. Couple those routes with his dynamic ability after the catch and it is easy to see him fitting in any NFL offense. He is the perfect high ceiling player that the Jets need. At the very least he can be a productive number two option.
