Round 4 – Pick 109

Alex Cappa, T, Humboldt State

This season the New York Jets started Kelvin Beechum and Brandon Shell at the tackle spots. Both of those players are candidates to be upgraded this offseason. In the fourth round the Jets can grab a player that may be able to do that. Alex Cappa, the small school tackle out of Humboldt State is climbing up draft boards and is the selection here for New York.

Cappa is another player who made himself significant money during his week at the Senior Bowl. Before that week in Mobile many saw Cappa as a small school prospect with upside. His tape was dominant but the level of competition was so low it was hard to judge who he truly was as a player.

At the Senior Bowl Cappa was able to not only hold his own against the top prospects but was dominant at time. This lines up with his tape. That tape showed that this man is a beast on the offensive line.

There are not many players in the conference Humboldt State played in that can hang with a 6-foot-7, 300 pound tackle. It is not just that Cappa is a big man with power. He showed excellent feet and hand usage that make him a high ceiling prospect.

In the fourth round, the Jets can possibly grab a starting caliber tackle. At worst he is a prospect that in a year or two can jump in and start along the offensive line. It will be a surprise to even see him this late in the draft after his impressive play in Mobile.
