1. Kirk Cousins

No surprise here and many consider Denver as the leader in the clubhouse right now to secure Cousins’s service, most likely as the highest paid player in the history of the NFL. Denver fans would be ecstatic to land Cousins, but a word of warning here: He is not the type of the quarterback that can just put an entire offense on his back and carry a team.

Cousins also can be turnover prone, although he has improved in this area over his career. In a way, that would make him a good fit in Denver with a still-strong Broncos defense. However, if the Broncos were to add Cousins, they had better firm up their offensive line and add more weapons via the draft to really become a complete team.

Not to mention, winning the Cousins sweepstakes would really prohibit Denver from addressing other problem areas in free agency. Expect Elway to pursue Cousins aggressively nonetheless. If he can’t land the biggest fish of the spring, look for the Broncos to use the No. 5 overall pick on a signal-caller. Denver could have its choice of a few quarterbacks including Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield.
