Kansas City Chiefs free agency 2018: Top 5 targets
3. Jack Mewhort
Mitch Morse returns from injury to secure the center position, a big problem area for the Chiefs while Morse was sidelined. Flanking Morse, Kansas City is set with Laurent Duvernay-Tariff at the right guard position, but the Chiefs really could use an upgrade at left guard to complete their offensive line.
With a very young quarterback in charge of the offense, the Chiefs can’t afford to cut corners with their offensive line. Bryan Witzmann, who played quite a bit in 2017, would then give Kansas City quality depth at both guard spots. Mewhort isn’t a superstar and this free agent guard market isn’t overly appealing. But Mewhort plays the game with a nasty streak that Reid would like quite a bit.
Mewhort is only 26 years old and isn’t coming off a great season in Indianapolis, but injuries have really been the concern with him. If Mewhort’s knee checks out, Kansas City might just get a steal and a long-term starter without having to break the bank.
