West. Denver Broncos. 2. player. 45. . AFC

As we enter the 2018 NFL offseason, there are two clear favorites to win the Cousins sweepstakes. The first team we will touch on is the Denver Broncos. While this is not a great entry point for Cousins, it’s also not all that horrible. This is because the Broncos might be the most quarterback desperate team in the AFC.

Sure, the Broncos have the No. 5 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but Denver has not drafted a Pro Bowler since taking tight end Julius Thomas out of Portland State in the 2011 NFL Draft. General manager John Elway might have been an outstanding player, but hasn’t been able to draft work a lick. That being said, he has proven to be adept in building a team in free agency. Look no further than the 2013 AFC championship and the 2015 Super Bowl 50 championship teams centered around former Indianapolis Colts legendary quarterback Peyton Manning.

No, Cousins is not going to be Elway or Manning in Broncos uniform. However, he stands to be better than Brian Griese and at least as good as Jake Plummer. Regardless, Cousins is already exponentially better than Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler. Denver might be best served to use that top-five pick to get Cousins an offensive weapon to help turn around this bad Broncos offense.

Cousins may not be playing for a good head coach in the defensive-minded Vance Joseph. However, Bill Musgrave is an excellent offensive coordinator. That could be the partnership that helps brings Denver out of irrelevancy in the AFC. The Broncos are near the league average in terms of the cap at $25,918,793. They will have to clear up some more space to sign Cousins at market value. Look for Elway to pursue Cousins in free agency. It would not be shocking to see in him Broncos uniform next season.
