. AFC. East. New York Jets. 1. player. 30

Could it be? Yes, it very well could be. The other team, and perhaps the most likely team, to potentially land Cousins in free agency has to be the New York Jets. In terms of good entry point, overall staff, financial implications and media market, it’s hard for Cousins to pass up the opportunity to be the best quarterback for Gang Green since Joe Namath.

Even if he’s just Ken O’Brien, Vinny Testaverde or Chad Pennington, Cousins will be better than what the Jets have been having at the quarterback position for a decade. Cousins will be young enough to be around for a rebuild in New York, as well as take this offense to new heights under newly promoted offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates. Bates comes from the same coaching tree that Cousins has shined under in Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay.

Like it would be with joining the Buffalo Bills, it’s a good entry point for Cousins with the Jets, as the only team with certainty at quarterback in the AFC East is the New England Patriots with Tom Brady, and he’s 40 years old! Cousins can throw a ball that cuts through the harsh East Rutherford, Foxborough and Orchard Park winds. This would also be an opportunity for the Jets to win in the tabloids, as signing Cousins would create huge buzz around this lackluster team.

Being that Todd Bowles led this rancid 2017 team to five wins last year was on par with moving the Himalayas. Given that the Jets have the third-most cap space in the league at $79,279,261, they can outbid just about anybody to land Cousins’ services. New York will have more cap space to build a competitive offense around him in free agency. Let’s not forget that the Jets also have the No. 6 pick in the upcoming draft. They would not have to use it on a quarterback if they are able to reel in Cousins on the biggest contract in NFL history.
