NFL free agency 2018: Best offensive lineman available
1. Andrew Norwell
Sacks given up – 35, tied for 18th in NFL
Rush yards per game – 131.4 yards, 4th in NFL
Pro Football Focus grade – 88.8, High Quality rating
It might be harder to find a lesser known name than Andrew Norwell to the average NFL fan but the undrafted free agent from Ohio State has turned himself into a coveted free agent at the age of 27 years old. Per Pro Football Focus, Norwell was the only guard in the NFL to not allow a quarterback sack or hit with at least 200 pass blocking plays. He’s also excellent in the run game and helped the Carolina Panthers to a top-five finish in rushing yards in the league this past season. Any team with cap space and is looking for an interior lineman is going to have a big circle around Norwell’s name.

It’s not very common to see an undrafted player rise all the way to an All-Pro level but that is exactly what Norwell did in 2017. He hasn’t missed a game since 2015 and probably couldn’t have picked a better season to be a free agent. He would be a massive loss for the Panthers if he walks out the door. Carolina has quarterback Cam Newton who has taken more than his share of hits through his career.
The offensive line is vital to keeping him on his feet since he already takes hits when he runs around. Carolina also just spent a top 10 pick on running back Christian McCaffrey and will obviously want to keep the line in front of him as cohesive as they can. Norwell isn’t the sexiest name on the market but will be a massive contributor to whichever team he’s playing for in 2018.
