2018 NFL mock draft: Saquon Barkley heads to Giants
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants were supposed to challenge in the NFC this season, as many looked at them as a favorite to make a deep run in the playoffs. However, head coach Ben McAdoo proved to be a joke, and by the end of the season, both he and general manager Jerry Reese were gone. As the franchise looks towards the future, there is still a ton of talent on this roster, and new head coach Pat Shurmur will be expected to translate that into wins.
Due to the fact they won only three games last season, the Giants will be picking No. 2 overall in April. The last time they picked this high, they selected linebacker Lawrence Taylor, so the hope is they can hopefully strike gold once again. While most mock drafts have them taking a quarterback to eventually take the reins from Eli Manning, Shurmur may want to go running back, as his plan is to win next season.
The best running back in this draft class is Saquon Barkley, who is a three-down back from Penn State. Barkley is as dangerous in the run game as he is in the passing game, and the Giants have not had a legitimate running back in some time. This Giants team has the talent to win in 2018, and Barkley would give the team another dimension they can utilize, as they already have arguably the best wideout in football.
