2018 NFL mock draft: Saquon Barkley heads to Giants
By Brad Weiss
During the 2017 NFL season, the Denver Broncos struggled to play consistent football on the offensive side of the ball. The real issue was the fact that they had no quarterback all season long, as they shuttled guys like Paxton Lynch, Brock Osweiler, and Trevor Siemian out each week. Heading into 2018, head coach Vance Joseph is going to need more reliability at the position, and they may use their early first round pick on the position.
During his time at Oklahoma, Baker Mayfield went from a walk-on to a Heisman Trophy winner. His story is one of the best we have seen in recent memory, although he has gotten a reputation for being a hot-head. While comparisons to Johnny Manziel are just lazy, there is no denying that he has the same build and fiery disposition on the field, which could cause him to fall in round one.
Comparisons or not, this kid is not going to fall out of the top-10, as he showed he can make all the throws needed during the Senior Bowl. He also has the kind of passion that teams love out of the quarterback position, and has the winning attitude needed to turn this franchise around. John Elway is tired of waiting for this position to correct himself, as will likely spend this pick on the next face of the franchise.
