2018 NBA Mock Draft: Trae Young could reset the Kings backcourt
If I’m the Nuggets, I’m keying in on versatility in a big way with each move I make. As wing scorers go, Musa is one of the more versatile options.
Musa is versatile positionally as well as in his skill set. He will eventually be able to play anywhere from 2 to 4 on offense, thanks to his height (6-8) and quickness. Of course, the bigger he plays the more of a matchup problem he becomes, but Denver is a unique fit because of the other multi-position players in their rotation. They start no true point guard or power forward, and Musa could slide in and give their offense another dynamic dimension.
His skill set also creates problems for opposing defenses. Musa can shoot lights out, but has improved this season quite a bit creating secondary offense. He doesn’t have to simply be a catch-and-shoot player in the league to be effective. He can attack closeouts, make simple passes and finish at the rim. All of it will become easier when he grows into his frame.
The defense is a massive question mark, as he is playing limited minutes in a scoring-only role for Cedevita. But this late in the draft, you take the scoring upside and figure the other stuff out when Musa gets to work.
