2018 NBA Mock Draft: Trae Young could reset the Kings backcourt
The Sixers are suddenly in a very competitive race for the final two seeds in the Eastern Conference, but the long game is still the one they are playing.
Simons fits into that trajectory, making it easier for Philadelphia to absorb such a raw player than most of the teams drafting in this stretch. At the very least, he appears to have NBA-level shooting ability, something the Sixers sorely need. If they were able to find above-average shooting in the draft rather than signing expensive free agents like JJ Redick or waiting to buyout a Marco Bellinelli, they would pull the trigger in a heartbeat.
Simons plays on-ball today, but in the NBA might be best in an off-guard spot to begin his career. It would allow his shooting to play before his athleticism and ball-handling catch up.
The Sixers have stayed competitive this season despite benching the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. They have patience, and Simons will need it.
