28. . AFC. West. Oakland Raiders. 3. player

We might see some more big changes to the Oakland Raiders besides Jon Gruden coming to join them out of the ESPN booth. The Raiders are a total mess on the defensive side of the ball. Sans for superstar defensive end Khalil Mac, there is room to upgrade at any other position group on the Raiders’ defense, especially cornerback.

The Raiders have already released often-injured cornerback David Amerson this offseason. He suffered a concussion and a foot injury that didn’t heal. So why didn’t the Raiders put him on IR back in October? Oakland could also be seeing players like cornerback T.J. Carrie and free safety Reggie Nelson leave in their free agencies.

Oakland does have three young players in its secondary in Gareon Conley, Karl Joseph and Obi Melifonwu. However, the Raiders could use a veteran presence in the form of a guy like Johnson. Oakland is near the middle of the pack in terms of available cap space with $27,935,190. Simply put, the Raiders have enough money to pay top-dollar to at least one high-end free agent this spring.

Should the Raiders release cornerback Sean Smith, that could signify a move by the Silver and Black to land a guy like Johnson in free agency. However, they have another pressing need at wide receiver, as it seems that they will be moving off No. 2 wide receiver Michael Crabtree this spring as well. Johnson could very well play for the Raiders on his next contract.
