Round 2 – Pick 61

Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State

This is the spot in the draft that Jacksonville should look towards pass catchers or a quarterback of the future, if they go that route. If Lamar Jackson was here at this point it would have been a solid selection. With Blake Bortles under contract for 2018, the team can address quarterback in next year’s draft. Instead, they get Bortles a safety blanket type player that the team currently lacks. Tight end Dallas Goedert is considered by some as the class’ best. In my eyes, this is the better spot for him, late in round two.

An ideal NFL-style tight end, Goedert has dominated his small school competition the past two seasons. People that are 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds rarely have the athleticism that Goedert brings. Couple that with outstanding hands and it is easy to see why he may be the first tight end off the board.

Jacksonville utilized Marcedes Lewis as their tight end this past season. Upgrading that to Goedert could make Borles very happy. He will need to improve his blocking to really stick as an every down player, especially in Jacksonville. Even without that improvement immediately, he is a matchup nightmare for NFL teams. A strong combine could push him into round one.

Other options here could include wide receivers or help at linebacker. This is a deep class for both of those positions. If Goedert was to fall this far, Jacksonville would be grabbing a game-changing player.
