Round 3 – Pick 93

D.J. Chark, WR, LSU

With the defense that Jacksonville showed off in 2017, the team could go offense heavy in the 2018 draft. The offensive trend continues in this mock with a wide receiver some expect to shoot up draft boards once the combine wraps up. D.J. Chark of LSU is the type of receiver that teams love.

Coming from a run heavy offense with sub-par quarterback play, Chark had some catching up to do entering the draft process. That started with a strong performance during Senior Bowl week practice in Mobile. His momentum continued into the Senior Bowl game where he was able to show off the big play threat he can be at the next level. While at LSU, even with that terrible quarterback play Chark averaged almost 22 yards per catch in 2017.

He will need to add some bulk to his 6-foot-4 frame. At the Senior Bowl he was sub-200 pounds. That weight should go up at the combine as he trains. His biggest asset is his speed and some think he could be one of the faster wide receivers running in Indianapolis.

Jacksonville would be wise to invest in the wide receiver position. It can start out as insurance in case they lose Allen Robinson or Marqise Lee. The player can also fill the spot of Allen Hurns who has had injury issues and does not have a guaranteed contract for the 2018 season. The team is committed to Bortles for 2018 but beyond that he is not under contract. Whether it is him or a new face at quarterback, pieces like Goedert and Chark are wise investments that may make the transition easier.
